Dr. Partick Awuah!

How do you think of Africa?

What is wrong in Africa?

Dr. Patrick Awuah, an engineering and economics graduate of Swarthmore College as well as a graduate of UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and a former Microsoft Program Manager, decided to ask these questions to himself and to those in Ghana, the place where he grew up.

The answer he found: Leadership.

With this discovery, Dr. Awuah decided to do something about leadership in Africa and he recognized the opportunity to do so through education.

Soon after, he founded, Ashesi University, which educates students with critical thinking and ethical courage as the foundation of each lesson.

In 2010, Dr. Awuah was ranked as one of the top 100 most creative people in business by Fast Company and today, Ashesi University moves into its 11th year.

Please join SEED and the rest of Elon’s entrepreneurial community in welcoming Dr. Patrick Awuah to Burlington, NC on February 27th, 2014 at 5:00PM in the LaRose Digital Theater on Elon University’s Campus. 

We will not only be given a chance to hear him speak but we will be given the opportunity to ask questions and engage with someone who embodies the idea of social entrepreneurship.

Stand Up, Take Action

The Stand Up Take Action project is a global campaign for the elimination of poverty through standing up, to appeal to world policymakers in the hopes of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a United Nations Development Program.

These stand up action is world wide scale, and raise awareness of people to make change.

We SEED member showed our support for MDGs by taking pictures of “Stand Up Take Action”.  I submitted to it to Website in Japan, and our votes as a member of SEED will be counted as Japanese report.

SEED Students Attend Triad Startup Weekend

This past weekend a group of seven SEED students traveled to the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship to attend Triad Startup Weekend. This 54-hour event allowed our students to network and collaborate with professionals and other students from the surrounding area including Raleigh, Charlotte, High Point University, and Wake Forest University. 

Most of our students ended up working with groups consisting mainly of professionals and each one excelled in helping their team create a business model with the potential for scalability. The ideas presented last weekend ranged from online-private education for students in Kenya, a “Sidekick” application locating sport partners when friends are not available, to a 3D-printing collaboration model, and an online-community for women diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses.

The students’ success didn’t stop within their teams. SEED is proud of those students who made it to the final round of presentations, representing Elon with strong presenting skills and handling Q&A in a polite and appropriate way demonstrating a thorough knowledge of their concepts.
